Naserian Girls Empowerment Foundation has been working tirelessly with groups of women in Eduet Rombo villiage implementing various project with the aim of fighting poverty and enabling the community to depend on its own as well as using the surrounding resource to empower themselves. one of the two projects here include chicken farming well known as kuku wa kienyeji(in swahili) project.this project is very new to the Maasai community ,Maa community is very well known for decades to practice livestock keeping , so birds keeping as they refer is something new to them and so was the whole project.

We however kick off the project With the help of two experts whom we invited from kakamega county, their county been our first choose due to their vast knowledge and experience on poultry farming.
after a one week seminar ,the members were able to get a go ahead knowledge on how to start indigeous chicken business as well maintain the above project .after the training the project kicked off and through members donation a house was build which now host 100 chicken on an open large space area

We choose this project because it has more than ONE income, apart from gaining direct income on egg and meat selling , we also have other advantages like using the chicken manure in our farmers in growing various vegetables and tree planting.other than that young children and pregnant women can also get protein easily by consuming at least an egg a day ,this all contributes for a health living as well as a healthy community .

Ukulima bora na mbinu bora (smart farming) project

Ukulima bora na mbinu bora (smart farming) project was started with the aim of ensuring that the the women/community under Naserian Girls Empowerment Foundation gain knowledge in agriculture .

Due to dramatic climatic changes and poor farming planning ,a good number of families have been left without food every season. so the project was put in place in order to help this women/community gain new agricultural methods and skills for food sustainability .this project was not however easy without the collaboration of other existing local governmental body (chief office )and Non governmental organisation (iduat women group ).

On collaborating with various Non governmental organisation and local government bodies, the women /community were able to gain various skills and knowledge ,from how to prepare a rainfall calendar to how to minimise a small piece of land for quality food production as well as inter cropping and rotational planting .

Up to now the two projects have been so successful and the women have been reporting a positive change in earning income especially with poultry farming which require very little labour as well as feeding expenses .
